The IDOE team is in the process of updating data for the Federal Report Card for the 2023-2024 school year, as well as for previous years. Due to this, there may be slight interruptions in the datasets where not all indicators will currently have data for all years accessible by the year selector filter. IDOE will continue to update the years of data as they become available.

Federal Accountability

Indiana developed a federal accountability system to drive student success by providing information about achievement of statewide goals. The indicators used in the federal accountability system have been identified as fundamental measures of school performance and success. Each school’s performance is measured in relation to the respective statewide performance goals, and reflected by a designation of exceeds expectations, meets expectations, approaches expectations, or does not meet expectations. The performance on all indicators is combined to determine the overall annual performance rating of the school.

State Accountability
HEA 1591 required the Indiana State Board of Education (SBOE) to issue a “null” or “no letter grade” for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years. In lieu of issuing letter grades and in an effort to provide additional transparency in school performance, HEA 1591 required DOE to develop the School Performance Report for public and state accredited non-public schools to post on their websites by October 15th, 2023. The School Performance Report provides key data points for parents, families, and communities to better understand the work happening in our schools. Information about the metrics on the School Performance Report can be found in this memo.

Pursuant to HEA 1535 and in alignment with Indiana’s GPS dashboard , IDOE will develop a proposal revising our current accountability system in December of 2024. Additional information will be added to IDOE's Indiana Student-Centered Accountability page as progress continues.
